Feast of the Ascension Masses
May 20, 2019
Thursday, May 30, is the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. It is the fortieth day after Easter and commemorates the return of Jesus back to the right hand of God the Father in Heaven. The Feast of the Ascension is a Holy Day of Obligation for all Catholics. As Catholics our obligation to attend Mass on Holy Days is every bit as serious as our obligation to attend Sunday Mass. Masses to satisfy the obligation will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon May 29 at 4:00 PM and on Thursday at 8:00 AM, 12:05 PM and 7:00 PM.
K of C Tootsie Roll Drive
Pope St. Paul VI Council of the Knights of Columbus will be holding its Tootsie Roll Drive here at Holy Redeemer at all Masses the weekend of June 8/9. The Tootsie Roll Drive helps the Knights fund their charitable work especially their work with developmentally handicapped boys and girls. Please support the knights and their work.
Catholic Charities Appeal Approaches Midpoint
The 2019 Catholic Charities Appeal is ongoing through June 30th. The Fall River Diocese’s Charities Appeal is the one time each year all the Catholic faithful are asked to financially support the many charitable and social service agencies of the diocese. Many of these agencies the Appeal supports are located here on the Cape. They include St. Joseph’s House in Hyannis, the only full-service homeless shelter on the Cape, St. Clare House in Centerville, a transition home for former female inmates from the Barnstable House of Correction and the Catholic Social Services office in Hyannis.
As of Tuesday ---parishioners have donated _____ to the 2019 CCA. Last year 220 Holy Redeemer Parishioners donated $51,519.75, to the Appeal. It would be a great sign of love for the needy if every parish household were to donate to this year’s appeal. Please be generous to this year’s CCA. Consider increasing your donation or plan to give this year if you have not given in the past.
Last week registered parishioners received copies of a parish survey developed by the Parish Pastoral Council. We would like every parishioner beyond Confirmation age to fill it out individually. We tried to send the appropriate number of surveys per household but if we were short for your family there are extra copies available at the back of the church. The survey will evaluate several areas of parish life. Please plan on filling the survey out and return it to us promptly. The deadline for returns will Sunday June 2. Please use the return envelope and send it to the Parish Office or drop it in the collection basket at Mass. We are looking forward to your responses.
Parish Summer Event
Our next planning meeting the parish Summer Fun-raiser will be held this Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 4:00PM. The event is planned for Sunday, August 25, 2019. That is the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the original dedication of Holy Redeemer Church back in 1916. The event will include a cookout, raffle to benefit the work of the Holy Redeemer Woman’s Club, entertainment, games and anything else you can think of that might be fun. We will need lots of help! The Woman’s Club, Knights of Columbus and several parishioners are all onboard. It will be fun to work together as a parish community to make this event a success. Come share your gifts and make this a fun event.
Summer Help Needed
As we walk down Main Street, we see quite a few “Help Wanted” sign in store windows. We’ll be needing extra help here in the parish this summer too. If you are a seasonal resident and are a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Altar Server or some other ministry in your home parish we could use your help while you are here at Holy Redeemer. Don’t take the summer off completely. Call the Parish Office (508) 945-0677 so we can tell you what you need to do to help out here at Holy Redeemer. We will also need extra help with collectors and ushers as we expand our Mass schedule. Masses at Our Lady of Grace Chapel will be Saturday Vigil 4:30 PM, Sunday morning at 7:30 & 9:30 AM for July 4th to Labor Day weekends. An additional 12 Noon Mass will be added at Holy Redeemer Church from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend.
Ryan Peteraf Hired as New Music Director
As noted in last week’s bulletin the parish has hired its first professional Music Director. We are very excited about welcoming Ryan Peteraf to this position. Ryan will begin in the parish on the parish on July 1. He is looking for housing. If have an unoccupied apartment or know of the availability of one please contact the Parish Office with the details.
